Did you grow up loving your tan? While the sun is important in maintaining our vitamin D levels, its UVA rays can cause a range of issues, such as wrinkles, brown spots, broken vessels, redness (rosacea) and even skin cancer. Sunscreens’ SPF ratings only refer to the UVB rays that burn, and inadequate or expired sunscreens contribute to the high incidence of age related changes. Dr. Cockerham can help you reverse a variety of those changes using patented, state-of-the-art intense pulsed light therapy (IPL), also known as photofacial treatment.
IPL is an advanced technology that uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths and a variety of filters to gently draw the brown spots onto the surface of your skin. These areas will then exfoliate painlessly in seven to ten days. Redness associated with rosacea also dramatically reversed by IPL. Rosacea causes redness, broken capillaries and is associated with ocular irritation and inflammation (e.g. dry eyes, meibomianitis, blepharitis) Dr. Cockerham has over two decades of experience facilitating facial rejuvenation for women and men with sun-damaged skin. She has been selected as a Center of Excellence by Lumenis® to teach other physicians the most advanced techniques.
The treatment is most commonly used on the face, neck, chest, and back of hands to combat these and other unsightly skin conditions.
Anesthetic cream and a cooling gel are applied to maximize effectiveness and optimize comfort. Your treatment is completed in 10 - 20 minutes depending the area treated. Following your IPL, you can resume your normal activities immediately, after applying sunblock. Results can vary, but three to six treatments are usually needed to achieve the desired look.
