Dr. Kimberly Cockerham and Central Valley Eye Medical Group have taken time to train the staff on all appropriate precautions. Our highest priority is always the safety of our patients and staff. We are closely monitoring this evolving COVID-19 situation and are in regular contact with health agencies for information and guidance. As always, we will maintain close relationships with local, state, national and international public health authorities and will inform you if anything changes.

We have implemented numerous preventive measures as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

How to wear a maskThe New Normal:

1. You should not come to the office if you have a fever or any symptoms of COVID-19

2. Please wear a mask to the appointment.

3. When you arrive you will be asked screening questions, have your temperature taken and asked to use cleanse your hands prior to entering the office.

4. Patients with neurologic concerns, orbital disease like thyroid eye disease, suspicious lumps or bumps, tearing, eyelid or orbital infections, trauma and/or eyelid concerns are welcome to come in.

5. Patients needing medical or cosmetic Botox/Dysport are also welcome. Unfortunately, cosmetic fillers, lasers and surgery are still on hold by Governor Newsom.

6. Friends or family members will be asked to stay in the car (no mask needed) or in the waiting room (mask required). Teleconferences can be used to communicate from the clinic room.

Thank you for your patience in this unusual time. We look forward to seeing you again.

CLINICAL TRIALS ARE NOW OPEN

Dr. Cockerham’s research interests include thyroid eye disease, ocular oncology and vision preservation. After nine years in preclinical development, phase 1 clinical trials are recruiting patients with vision problems due to inflammation at Stanford Byers Eye Institute. Two patients with refractory edema have been safely treated with episcleral dexamethasone and demonstrated efficacy within 30 days. Recruitment is ongoing.

This novel delivery system has been used under compassionate use approval to treat three children with refractory retinoblastoma and one adult with choroidal melanoma. Phase 1 clinical trials will be opening at Sickkids in Toronto, Children's Hospital, Los Angeles (CHLA) and Texas Children's Hospital/MD Anderson in Houston. Children with large tumors who are facing eye removal and those with refractory tumors are the first to be studied.

If you or someone you know is interested in being part of these clinical trials, contact Dr. Cockerham directly at CockerhamMD@gmail.com
