Kimberly Cockerham, MD, FACS, recipient of the AAO Senior Achievement Award, has two decades of experience investigating wound healing and fibrosis within the context of ophthalmology, orbital disease, facial plastics and neuro-ophthalmology.

She has been the Chief of Oculoplastics and Orbital Disease at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, UCSF and Stanford University. She has published nearly 100 peer reviewed articles, papers and chapters and co-authored the book Diagnosis and Management of Orbital Disease. She is currently an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the department of ophthalmology at Stanford University and is in her sixth year of studying the plastics, orbit and neuro-ophthalmic impact of blast injuries on Vets returning to the VA Palo Alto Health System. She has also served on the Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine Blast Committee tasked with providing feedback to the DOD and VA on the chronic effects of blasts in the current conflicts.

Dr. Cockerham is Section Editor for Ophthalmology Surgery News, health advisor and writer for Men’s Health and serves as a reviewer for multi-disciplinary journals in print and online. Dr. Cockerham’s non-profit foundation “Let’s Face It Together” www.LFITfoundation.org provides medicines, surgical supplies, prosthetics, medical care and surgery for under-insured patients with congenital or acquired ocular or facial alterations.

Dr. Cockerham’s research interests include thyroid eye disease, post-traumatic fibrosis, wound healing and neuroprotection. After nine years in preclinical trials, phase 1 clinical trials have now been launched at Stanford. This novel delivery system has effectively treated two children with refractory retinoblastoma; we will now be utilizing the technology to combat intraocular cancer, inflammation, neovascularization and provide neuroprotection.
